Rigid Motion

Today we have talked about the way of moving points in a plane and the four different rigid motions that we can use in it. These are:  Translation: everything is moved as a whole and in the same direction. Every translation has direction and distance. Rotation: is about rotating a figure around a fixed point (rotocenter). Everything is rotated altogether the same distance. All rotations have a rotocenter and an angle. Reflection: every reflection has a mirror line. This fixed mirror line in the plane lets us move points from one side of the line to the other. The exchanged point are at the same distance from the mirror as the original points. Glide reflection: is a combination of two of the previous movements. It consists on a mirror reflection followed by a translation parallel to the mirror. Every glide reflection has a mirror line and a translation distance.  To relate this topic with cinema, we are going to focus on the reflection. This is something that has been use...

Angles

Hello everyone, today I'm going to tell you about angles.  An angle is the intersection of two closed half-planes, obtained from two incident lines. Both of these lines are the sides of the angle and the point where they meet is the vertex.  Angles can be classified because of their measure in null, acute, straight, obtuse, flat or reflect.  There are a couple of theorems related to angles. These are the following: Two angles are complementary if you add one to the other and the answer is 90º. If the answer is 180º, they are supplementary. Two angles are "adyacentes", if they share a side and their interiors do not overlap. Two angles are vertical when its four sides form two lines that intersect. When two lines intersect in two points because of a transversal line, it forms 4 pairs of angles called corresponding angles. Filmmakers carefully select the angles of the cameras to transmit emotions, create atmospheres and strengthen the film's narrative. When combining a...

Lines

Imagen
Hey everyone, today we are going to be talking about..... lines!! As we've seen, the notion of line or straight line was introduced by ancient mathematicians to represent straight objects with negligible width and depth. Lines are an idealization of such objects.  This is the definition that lines were given until the 17th century: "The [straight or curved] line is the first species of quantity, which has only one dimension, namely length, without any width nor depth, and is nothing else than the flow or run of the point which […] will leave from its imaginary moving some vestige in length, exempt of any width. […] The straight line is that which is equally extended between its points." Lines can be parallel, concurrent or transversal. The first one are two lines that do not have any point in common. Concurrent lines have a point in common. Lastly, transversal lines cut another one in two. Lines play a significant role in cinema, both visually and symbolically. Here are ...
